Dorchester Town Boss, Aged 60, Forced To Register As Player Due To Financial Woes

Opponents Dorchester Town have had a difficult start to their season – after finishing in eighth place last time around, just one win from eight this season sees them rooted at the bottom of the league, already three points from safety. That win came in their last league match, a 2-0 win at home to fellow strugglers Chelmsford City, although a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to lowly Shortwood United in the FA Cup last Saturday was alarming.

That defeat ensured there would be no repeat of last season’s Cup heroics, in which The Magpies reached the Second Round – beating League side Plymouth Argyle in the process – adding more than £50,000 to the club’s coffers. Now, with debts of over £150,000, the playing budget has been reduced and every player has been made available for transfer in an effort to bring in much-needed revenue.

The situation is so desperate that sixty-year-old manager Phil Simkin has registered himself as a player and could sit on the bench available for action in Saturday’s match. Speaking of his club’s plight, Simkin said: “Quite frankly I don’t know what players will still be here for selection against Dover. One way or another we need to put a team out. It’s been very difficult.”

Preview: Western Sydney Wanderers v Brisbane Roar (semi finals)

after regular season Wester Sydney Wanderers was first (57pts), Brisbane Roar finished 5th (35pts)

hosts won all tree h2h games and they have tre important players back, roar has two players fit (which was doubtful)..

The Game:
Despite being up-and-down for most of the season, Brisbane aren’t about to give their title up without a fight and are just one game away from a third straight decider. Mike Mulvey has got his side firing at the right time, with last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Adelaide their third in a row. But if the Roar are to play for another championship they will need to knock off the in-form premiers.

Western Sydney are on a remarkable 12-game unbeaten run, have had the benefit of a week’s break and will play in front of their hostile and parochial home fans.

The busiest men at both clubs this week have been the medical staff with a host of key players from the respective sides racing the clock to be fit. Shinji Ono (groin), Aaron Mooy (knee) and Jerome Polenz (calf) all missed the title-winning clash with Newcastle a fortnight ago but are expected to line-up on Friday night.

Brisbane defender Jack Hingert is out for the season with an ankle injury picked up against Adelaide but skipper Thomas Broich (Achilles) and midfielder Luke Brattan (calf) are likely to play despite failing to finish the match against the Reds.

The big issue:
Wanderers – They took out the Premiers’ Plate in their debut season but there will be no second chances for Tony Popovic’s side from now on. This is sudden death football. While Brisbane have been there and done it over the last couple of years, for many of the Wanderers squad this will be a new experience. Just how they handle the pressure could determine if they move through to the decider.

Roar – Brisbane may have some momentum heading into this clash but the short turnaround and injury clouds over a couple of key players could prove pivotal. While the Wanderers will be fresh from a week off and had the opportunity to get a few of their stars over niggling injuries, the Roar head into this one just five days after a bruising win over Adelaide and that could take its toll late in this encounter.

Volyn Lutsk – Mariupol  ah 0 Mariupol

In “Volyn” ongoing personnel problems. Anatoly Demyanenko can not count on suspended Vanc Sikov (df 19/0), Petar Zanyeva (df 19/0) and Valentin Iliev (df 18/0), several players are in hospital or just starting to recover from injuries.

Conference, Southport – Lincoln  1 @ 2,35  5/10

Lincoln is 4 place above but just one point more. Just is Chalmers (mf 4/0) out for Southport but this is pick based on away injury problms:

The injury crisis engulfing Lincoln City could deprive them of nine first team players for tomorrow’s trip to Southport.
Already without captain Gary Mills (mf 18/0), Mo Fofana (mf 12/0), Peter Gilbert (df 10/0) and Rob Duffy (att 3/0), Jake Sheridan (illness, mf 24/0) and Scott Garner (knee, df 6/0) were added to the casualty list at the weekend.

So with bad form, without victory ion last 4 games they cannot be optimistic after all problems and Lincoln boss David Holdsworth describe his preparations as “chaotic”.

“It is an absolute nightmare,” he said.
“We are already without a number of first team players while Jake and Scott picked up injuries at the weekend.
“But that’s not the only problem, illness has been a worry too.
“I could be without nine players for Southport which would severely have an impact on us.
“But we’ll go up there patched up and whatever team I put out I expect them to give it a real go.”

Friendly International, South Africa vs  Norway  1 @ 2,1 3/10
Bafana Bafana is very near start of African Cup of Nations (19.1 have first game with Cape Verde) so there is no space for soem experiments. Now is also important resault because of winning mentality and self confidence.
Dean Furman was rested for the final session on Monday, 7 January. The midfielder joined camp on Sunday, 6 January after playing in an third round FA Cup tie for his club Oldham Athletic in England on Saturday (5 January). The coach will select from all available players who have all been given a clean bill of health apart from Furman.
On the other side ‘just friendly game’ for Norway. Only is Ardian Gashi in Helsingborg (Sweden), all other players are from domestic league. True, some of them haw lot international expirience like Bjørn Helge Riise (30/1), Erik Huseklepp (30/7), Espen Ruud (26/0) but 7 called up players are without international expirience and will debut today. Also two players with 1 cap, 3 players with 2 caps so i must take bet on hosts because of motivation, expirience, they are in competitive rythm and home field of course, fans expect resautl on AFCON. Also Norway will get chance to all 19 players in this game (hosts probably not because as i said no time for lot experiments and resault is also important for them)  Continue reading
