preview / line up

  Odense BK – Midtjylland

 Montpellier – Toulouse

Montpellier HSC

In:
Herrera (att 21/11, Unión Espanola), Mounier (att 29/8, Nice), Congre (df 37/0, Toulouse), Charbonnier (att 30/12, Angers)

Out:
Giroud (att 36/21, Arsenal), Dernis (mf 20/5, Brestois), Lacombe (att 0/0, Clermont Foot)

Champs susprised last season by winning title but seems that this season would be harder than ever. Specially it means because of strong (as squad, as in financial segments) Paris SG. They must sold best player, league topscorer Giroud to Arsenal (12 mil) and they bring 3 new, seems quality strikers to replace him. Other squad is almost same, didnt changed much so it can be big plus. Two weeks ago they had supercup game with lyon, played in US (Red Bull stadium, New York) and they loose on penaltyes, 2-2 in regular. Good squad with good cemistry but seems like PSG is too strong this season for all. We will see

Target: Winning title again will be very hard this season but top 3 fight is realistic

Toulouse

In:
Zebina (df 27/0, Brest), Blondel (gk 17/0, Troyes)
Out:
Congre (df 37/0, Montpellier), Bulut (att 31/5, Galatasaray – loan), Fofana (df 6/0, Reims), Riou (gk 0/0, Nantes), Deveaux (mf 22/2,  Reims), Loustallout  (gk 0/0, Rodez), Soukouna (att 2/1, Luzenac – loan)

Toulouse also keep their ‘team skeleton’. Only important leaving is standard defender Congre who is replaced by ex France International player Jonathan Zebina (roma, Juve). But i am little suprised that they didnt imporved their attack. They was scoring less than a goal per game last season (37 goals in 38 games) and they didnt stenght team with some offensive players. they would like more but my opinion is that they will have mid table finish.

Target:
Mid table finish is realistic (no matter they would like more)

For this game

Montepellier without: Marco Estrada (mf 30/1)m Younes Belhanda (mf 28/12), Anthony Mounier (new att from Nica, 29/8), Garry Bocaly (df 34/0)

Toulouse without: Paulo Machado (mf 24/3)

  Willem II – NAC Breda

Willem II

In:
Snijders (winger, Vitesse), Jallo (defender, Heracles Almelo), Haastrup (defender, Helmond Sport), Hocher (midfielder, ADO Den Haag), Brands (midfielder, Telstar), Peters (defender, FC Den Bosch), Van Buuren (defender, FC Den Bosch).

Out:
Martens (midfielder, Veendam), Janga (winger, Excelsior), Gravenbeek (midfielder, FC Zwolle), Van Zaanen (winger, Almere City), Kolsi (midfielder, Celje), Swinkels (defender, Lierse).

After having played one year in the Jupiler League, Willem II will compete once more in the Eredivisie for the 2012/2013 season. For a long time it did not look like they would bounce back. Under new manager Streppel the team had to be rebuild last summer and as a result they didn’t get off to the best start. Despite having one of the best squads in the league they found themselves back in the mid table at times. In the end they did finish in the fifth position and as a result entered the play-offs for promotion. After beating Sparta in two close games they met up with Den Bosch in the finals. After an away draw they finished the job at home with a victory. The board immediately took action and strengthened the squad as they will have to step up in order to avoid immediate relegation again. Captain Swinkels left for Lierse but Willem II replaced him by signing no less than four new defenders. On the midfield Hocher already joined them during the winter break on a loan deal but he has now been officially signed. With Brands they signed another midfielder. All in all there won’t be too much changes in the Willem II side but Streppel will probably still be looking to add another attacker as they are a little light up front.

Target:
Willlem II will be happy if they stay up this season. They don’t have the financial means to immediately distance themselves from the relegation candidates but as other teams have pointed out in the recent years. Money is not everything in the Eredivisie and the club should be confident.

NAC Breda

In:
Sepp de Roover (defender, Lokeren – loan), Mark Looms (defender, Heracles Almelo), Thilo Leugers (midfielder, FC Twente – loan), Anouar Hadouir (midfielder, Alemannia Aachen)

Out:
Donny Gorter (defender, AZ Alkmaar), Florian Jozefzoon (winger, RKC Waalwijk), Jeffrey Sarpong (midfielder, Real Sociedad), Jimmy van Fessem (goalkeeper, unknown), Milano Koenders (defender, Heracles Almelo), Nourdin Boukhari (striker, unknown), Ömer Bayram (winger, Kayserispor), Robbert Schilder (midfielder, FC Twente), Roly Bonevacia (midfielder, Ajax), Santi Kolk (striker, Union Berlin), Stefano Seedorf (midfielder, unknown), Youssef El-Akchaoui (defender, SC Heerenveen)

NAC Breda didn’t perform well last season. John Karelse’s outfit even got involved in the bottom half of the table and they had to fight to avoid relegation football at the end of the day. The 13th spot was more than enough to secure Eredivisie football for another season, but it wasn’t satisfying for the fans, who expected more from their club, at all. There still isn’t light at the end of the tunnel though.. The Breda outfit had to deal with financial problems again, which resulted in a summer without the big signings. A lot of regulars left the club as well, which isn’t ideal during the preparation for a new season. Regulars like Donny Gorter, Milano Koenders, Robbert Schilder and Santi Kolk left the club and it won’t be easy at all for NAC to fill the gaps. The first new signing is Mark Looms. The experienced left back played for Heracles Almelo and he will become a regular in Breda. His performances won’t push this side to a higher level though. Sepp de Roover played in the Eredivisie for Sparta Rotterdam and FC Groningen and he will replace Koenders on the right. Thilo Leugers came over on a loan deal from FC Twente, but he still has to show his qualities in The Netherlands. The Breda outfit also has some potential though. Players like Alex Schalk, Nemanja Gudelj and Eric Botteghin are more experienced now and these players are capable of improving this year. It won’t be easy at all though to play for a top ten position in the Eredivisie as it could be a bridge too far. The support in the Rat Verlegh Stadium is always great, but the club didn’t have the funds to respond to the departures. The side could surprise, but a top ten spot will be extremely difficult at the end of the day. Karelse will motivate his team though and experienced players like Kees Luijckx, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Anthony Lurling will have to lead this young and sometimes inexperienced formation. The KNVB Cup could a goal this season. The side are well-known cup fighters, but they were a bit unlucky with the draw in recent years to be honest. The motivation is definitely there and Karelse will have to look for a way to bag the points with fighting football.

Target:
NAC Breda fans are hoping for a top ten finish, but achieving that would be a miracle to be honest. A finishing spot between places 11 and 13 is the goal this season and they will have to perform from the start on to prevent a battle at the bottom of the league.

Oldham (Eng) – Manchester City (Eng)

Premier League champions at Boundary Park

Paul Dickov is relishing the prospect of Latics taking on the best as Premier League champions Manchester City visit Boundary Park tonight.City have yet to confirm their side, but Latics’ manager expects some of their stars to feature.City are currently on tour in the Far East, but their Euro 2012 players were given extra time off.Dickov said: “This is the biggest test of our pre-season as they don’t come any bigger than the Premier League champions.

“I would expect some of their top players will feature so it will be a fantastic test for us, both fitness wise and tactically how we deal with them.”

This is the penultimate friendly before the competitive action kicks off against Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup on Monday, August 13th.

And Dickov expects his players to up the ante as the competition for places intensifies. He said: “It is up to everyone to impress me as the team will be picked on merit.”There are two friendlies left for all the players to show me what they can do.”

..for city probably will play (maybe not frome begining) players from Euro (which didnt traveled in asia).. Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri, James Milner, Gareth Barry and Emmanuel Adebayor  (maybe even David Silva, Edin Džeko and Gareth Barry)
They had longer rest because of Euro2012..

AFC Wimbledon (Eng) – Preston (Eng)

Terry Brown (Wimbledon)says that pre-season will step-up a gear for his first-teamers against Preston North End tomorrow night.

The Dons boss has experimented with youngsters during our friendlies so far, but he says that getting 90 minutes into those who will start the season at Stevenage in two weeks’ time is now crucial.

“I need to get to a situation where I am giving 90 minutes to the 11-14 players who will be regulars,” Terry said. “Preston will offer me a chance to do that. We have mixed younsters in with the seniors and at any given time during our friendlies we have had at least six or seven young players in the squads. They are players with no experience of men’s football whatsoever. Some of the yougsters have acquitted themselves well, but Preston offers us a chance to concentrate on the first-team.”

The Lilywhites (Preston) will head to the country’s capital in buoyant mood following their 1-0 win over Greek side AEK Athens last Saturday courtesy of winger Jeffery Monakana’s late strike.

It was arguably North End’s strongest pre-season performance, and the Dons will provide a different type of test for Graham Westley’s side.

Team News
Tough tackling midfielder Jack King looks likely to miss Preston’s trip down south due to an ankle injury sustained in the first half against AEK.

John Welsh and winger David Amoo will be hoping for a return to action, but striker Lee Trundle will definitely be out with a knee injury.

Malaysia XI vs Manchester City Preview

Friendly Preview: Malaysia XI vs Manchester City

Rajagobal’s charges are eager to spring an upset over a Balotelli-less Manchester City in what’s still widely considered to be a battle between David and Goliath

National coach Datuk K. Rajagobal is looking forward to using the positives from his team’s highly commendable display against the Gunners as he schemes to get the better of his more fancied counterparts.

“The Arsenal game has boosted our confidence. We hold City in high regard but won’t give them too much respect. If we play like how we did against Arsenal, I dare say that we could even snatch a win over City,” said a buoyant Rajagobal in Saturday’s press conference.

Rajagobal can draw inspiration from the performances of combative midfielder Gary Robbat and goalkeeper Farizal Marlias, which impressed even the legendary Frenchman Arsene Wenger. However, he has got himself a headache in the scoring department as Malaysia’s strike force will be up against Kolo Toure and Vincent Kompany at the heart of the City defence.

Roberto Mancini on the other hand, will not be short of options as he has the likes of Argentine twin terrors Kun Aguero and Carlos Tevez to spearhead the attack. They will be ably assisted by the powerful midfielder Yaya Toure and England winger Adam Johnson. Toure stole the show in the recent 2-0 win over Arsenal in Beijing with a commanding performance from the midfield. Robbat will certainly have a busy time marking the Ivorian.

With so many stars on show, tomorrow’s battle will surely be a world class exhibition.

Toronto – Liverpool

Youngsters To Get Chance to impress vs. Liverpool

Toronto coach will split minutes between first team & Academy players in Liverpool friendly.  link

The TFC coach wants to put in a good effort for fans on the temporary grass field at Rogers Centre, but also sees the need to rest key players in a match that comes at a particularly gruelling time in the MLS schedule and features a far less exciting Liverpool lineup than originally announced.

“It couldn’t have come at a worse time,” the Reds manager said Wednesday night following his club’s third straight win, a 2-1 decision over the Colorado Rapids. “Because I’ve got some sore young men in there, battle-hardened and beaten up a little bit.”

TFC has played 10 matches since June 16 — going 4-2-4 during that stretch — and will face arguably its stiffest test of the season a week Saturday, when the suddenly surging clubs plays at BMO Field against the Houston Dynamo, currently occupying the Eastern Conference’s fifth and final playoff spot. Moreover, Mariner is trying to manage around a spate of injuries, including defenders Adrian Cann and Jeremy Hall, and most recently, a season-ending ACL tear for irreplaceable striker Danny Koevermans.

The “ridiculous run of games” will continue with seven more in August, and Mariner allowed that his club will be bringing in at least one additional body from outside the organization to augment the depleted forward ranks.

Toronto FC midfielder Terry Dunfield expects to take part in at least some of Saturday’s match.

“This is a great opportunity to play against one of the best teams in the world,” said the Canadian international. “It’s a great opportunity for some of the younger guys to show what they can do, not just in a reserve game but in a full on first-team game with a big crowd. We’ll see what some the young guys are made of.”

A group of players who won’t be putting on a show are Liverpool’s stars who took part in the recent European championship. Organizers issued a press release on Wednesday stating that England internationals Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson, Andy Carroll, Stuart Downing and Jordan Henderson would be travelling to Toronto.

But in a statement released less than 24 hours before kickoff, organizers announced that “due to FIFA regulations surrounding mandatory vacation dates” following international tournaments, all players who took part in Euro 2012 would miss out. Starting goalkeeper Pepe Reina (Spain) and striker Fabio Borini (Italy) also did not make the trip.

NEWPORT County boss Justin Edinburgh will be well advised to steer clear of ladders and black cats in the coming weeks to avoid further injury woe.

The Exiles boss was always keen to use today’s trip to Evesham United as a chance to assess his trialists and it is a good job with County more than a little under strength through injuries…
